As part of a major course project for my Content Strategies course, I worked independently to create a strategic content roadmap for a real-world client based on an earlier team content audit. In the early stages of the project, our team held virtual meetings with the client, where they gave us an inside look at their content operations—including how content was created, edited, and managed across different departments. Using insights from these meetings and the audit data, I evaluated their workflow and organizational structure to identify areas for improvement. I also conducted a SWOT analysis to assess the client’s position within their industry and uncover opportunities for growth. This project allowed me to apply content strategy principles in a professional context while focusing on clear, accessible communication for a broad audience.
Challenge
The main tasks we completed in the team portion of the content audit include:
- Collaborated on a content inventory and audit by gathering and evaluating client content using performance criteria (e.g., usability, accessibility).
- Attended or reviewed client meetings and submitted relevant questions to guide the assessment phase.
- Created and managed a team charter and task board (Kanban/WBS) to organize responsibilities and workflow using Microsoft Teams.
- Drafted a spreadsheet and summary report outlining the team’s findings from the content assessment and gap analysis.
- Co-wrote a team report analyzing the client’s content assessment findings, highlighting key performance gaps, strengths, and opportunities for strategic improvement.
The main tasks I completed in the individual portion of the content audit include:
- Analyzed content audit data from the team project to identify opportunities for strategic improvement in the client’s content operations.
- Developed a SWOT analysis to connect client business goals with findings from the content audit.
- Recommended strategic directions and supporting tactics for enhancing content maturity.
- Drafted a professional report that included an introduction, strategic analysis, conclusions, and cited references.
- Identified limitations of recommendations and outlined possible obstacles the client may face when implementing changes.

My Approach
Here’s how I approached the project to better understand the company and create useful recommendations:
- Performed a comprehensive analysis of the client’s content audit to understand how content was created, edited, and reviewed across departments.
- Investigated the organization’s internal structure and workflows to identify inefficiencies and recommend targeted improvements.
- Conducted an in-depth SWOT analysis that incorporated industry trends to highlight key opportunities and potential threats to the client’s content strategy.
- Focused on accessibility and clarity by writing in plain, professional language suitable for a broad range of stakeholders.
- Grounded all strategic recommendations in both content assessment findings and a broader understanding of organizational operations.
